Right now the Obama administration is spending a lot of money. Government grants for energy projects are out there and at every level of government, federal, state and local. Right now, funds are being awarded to states and local governments for their allocation to alternative energy projects. Local entities are deciding what projects get funded and most funding opportunities require partnerships.
Well how do you go about developing good partnerships? First, you identify and team up with organizations that share your mission and goals. Over time, you need to develop mutual trust and demonstrate credibility. There needs to be clear and constant communication between partners while also sharing information and collaborating often.
Let’s say you would like to develop a wind farm property and the local main street would like to power their businesses with clean energy sources; but, you need start-up funds for property development. Partnerships to cultivate would be with the local business on main street, the Chamber of Commerce in town, the Town board, and the local utility. Now you have to demonstrate your credibility by presenting a credible plan. Get your partners enthused by showing the benefits of your project but make sure it is feasible and engineered properly. Finally, make sure what you say about your project and how you say it is useful to all your partners.
Partnerships expand opportunities and provide access to wider audience. The ultimate benefit is funding for your project
