Did you hear the good news? Exxon has invested with Synthetic Genomics Inc. to develop photosynthetic algae for transportation fuels. Biofuels and those derived from algae are receiving a lot of support because biofuels are a seamless transition for diesel cars and trucks away from petroleum based fuels. Algae is a particularly interesting source of mass produced biofuels because it requires a lot of carbon dioxide to grow, doesn’t interfere with the global food production economy, and is currently omitted from cap and trade provisions.
